VIRGINIA IS FOR LOVERS
2008 Reunion Registration Form
The city for the 2008 Pleiku Air Base Association reunion has
been selected. We have settled on Fredericksburg Hospitalitity
House and Conference Center, Fredericksburg, VA.
Call 1-800-682-1049 for reservations and mention "PAA" to
get our group rate.
The hotel features 194 rooms, 9 suites, 8 handicap rooms,
exercise room, outdoor pool, lounge, restaurant and Ledo
Pizza and Pasta. The rooms are very clean, spacious and
priced within reason. Located halfway between Washington, DC
and Richmond, VA, the Fredericksburg area is surrounded
with the history of the Civil war.
Just outside the hotel, within a short 100 yard walk there are
the following restaurants: Joes's Crab Shack and Seafood;
Olive Garden; IHOP; Applebee's; Fuddruckers; Poncho Villa
Mexican Restaurant; Ruby Tuesday's and Outback Steakhouse.
There is a sprawling shopping complex behind the hotel with
everything from a South Vietnam Restaurant to Kohl's, Target,
Borders Books, Circuit City and many more specialty shops.
I am including two web sites that will better describe the hotel
and the area than I can. The websites are:
www.fredericksburghospitalityhouse.com for information on
the hotel: for the shopping in the area go to
www.centralparktoday.com At the Central Park site, go to
Store Directory and click on the map anywhere and then drag
pointer over the buildings and they will light up and be identified
in the ledger bar. Our hotel is between columns B-C/Row 4.
You will see all of the restaurants just to the left of the hotel.
Also go to www.visitfred.com for a site on tourist locations in
the area, including wineries, civil war museums, a horse and
carriage ride through historic Fredericksburg and much more.
We have negotiated room rates of $75.00 per night single or
double plus 10.5 % state and local taxes. This figures out to
about $83 per night. The dates are September 17-21 but
we will be given our rate if you want to arrive earlier to allow
for more sightseeing time. Our room rate is good for as long
as we stay. Just within a couple of miles there are Spotsylvania
Battlefield and Fredericksburg Battlefield,George Washington's
Mount Vernon home and the James Monroe Museum.
We hope you will all come and enjoy this historical area.
We will observe our Saturday memorial ceremonies at the
recently opened United States Air Force Memorial near
the Pentagon. The website for the memorial is
www.airforcememorial.org After the memorial service, we
will be bused to the Vietnam Memorial with time to visit there
plus the Korean and WWII memorials. We will return
to the hotel between 3 and 4 p.m. to prepare for our dinner.
The down side to this hotel is no airport transportation to Reagan
National. There is a company that the hotel uses for airport
transportation listed below.
The times they are a changing and cost is paramount for our
members. This area is within our general price range and
packed with things to do and see. We look forward to seeing
as many of you as possible. If there are any questions before
the next newsletter, contact me at tdrpsc@comcast.net and I
will answer them for you.
Thank you,
Tom Rushnock
